For most of the 2018 season, the Smyrna Bulldogs go as Blake Watkins goes.
However, Friday night at Ken Nolan Stadium, junior running back Mikel Hartfield showed if you contain Watkins, he is just as capable of burning you as well.
Hartfield carried the ball 10 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns as Smyrna dominated Siegel 31-6, carrying the Bulldogs to their fourth win of the season.
“The line was blocking well and opening holes,” Hartfield said. “I just hit them and got down field and got as much as I could get. We just have to keep executing. The (defenses) have to prepare for all of us. We’re all good and hard to defend.”
“I thought in the first half, we executed pretty well,” Smyrna coach Matt Williams added. “I was really proud of the offensive line for opening a lot of holes for Mikel Hartfield, who ran really well and executed in the run game.”
Things started well for Siegel, which marched down the field on its opening drive of the game to take a 6-0 lead on a 41-yard TD pass from Tucker Sears to Jermaine Majors. Sears finished completing 23 of 43 passes for 217 yards and touchdown.
