We are excited to welcome new head coach Katy Bell to the Smyrna Bulldog Family not only as a member of the coaching staff, but also as a teacher in the English department!
Coach Bell is a graduate of Blackman High School. She has played volleyball for 16 years and continues to play in competitive tournaments. Coach Bell brings four years of experience coaching with MidTN Volleyball Club and two years as an assistant coach in Rutherford County, one year each at both Blackman High and Stewarts Creek High.
Current head coach Valerie Vied said, “I am incredibly pleased with the naming of Katy Bell as my successor. Over the past two years as head coach, I focused on creating a positive team culture, empowering student athletes, and building mental strength, which lead to drastic improvements in our performance. Even though, for the first time in ten years, we ended our season with a winning record, we couldn’t break through our district to continue in post-season competition.”
After five years teaching and coaching at Smyrna High School, Coach Valerie Vied will return to San Antonio, Texas this summer. Coach Vied added, “Coach Bell has the knowledge and high expectations to take our team to the next level technically and tactically. I am confident our seniors in the class of 2020, Janvier Buggs and Maddie Wilds, will continue the upward trajectory of Smyrna Volleyball under the leadership of Katy Bell; I look forward to following the 2019 season from afar.”
Smyrna Volleyball will host three open gym sessions before tryouts. Incoming freshmen are welcome to attend the following sessions. Athletes must have a current physical to tryout.
