Varsity Football · Bulldogs fall at Riverdale 40-20

The Smyrna Bulldogs were defeated at Riverdale 40-20 on Friday, Sept. 11, 2020.  The Bulldogs (2-2, 1-0) fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter before answering on a 90 yard 10-play drive, scoring on a 2 yd. TD run by QB Landon Miller.  Sr. K Kevin Avalos added the PAT to cut the Warriors lead to 14-7 at halftime.  The Warriors (3-1) scored early in the third quarter to extend their lead to 21-7, but the Bulldogs answered on a 2 yd. TD run by RB Arion Carter to cut the lead to 21-13, as Avolos missed the PAT.  Again, the Warriors scored to take a 28-13 lead in the fourth quarter, but again Smyrna answered, this time on a 58 yd. scoring strike from Miller to WR Jamir Eaton.  Avalos converted the PAT to cut the Riverdale lead to 28-20, but that was as close as they could get.

Offensively, So. RB Arion Carter led the Bulldogs in rushing with 14 carries for 71 yds. and a TD.  So. QB Landon Miller was 11 for 22 passing for 178 yds. and a TD.  Receiving leaders were Sr. WR Jamir Eaton with 2 catches for 68 yds. and a TD, and Jr. WR Jaiden Jones with 3 catches for 38 yds.

On the defense, Eaton and Jr. LB B.J. Benthal led the Bulldogs with 6 solo tackles each.  The Bulldogs will try and get back on the winning track as they travel to Green Hill High School in Mt. Juliet, TN, next Friday night (9/18/20), before getting back into region play.
