Varsity Football · Riverdale wins third straight game, 40-20, over Smyrna

Running backs Brandon Connard and Marcus Lloyd each had 16 carries and combined for more than 300 yards in a 40-20 home win over Smyrna Friday night.

“Our line played really well but we did not play as well defensively as I would have liked,” Riverdale coach Will Kriesky said. “They broke a lot of arm tackles and got yards after contact. We have to improve on that the rest of the way.”

The offensive line starters for the Warriors — Jalen Jenkins, Jaylen Weist, Christian Stapleton, Alex Vitantonio and Jarod Russell — are all seniors.

 “We are the best 1-2 running back tandem in the state,” Connard said. “We can do that every week against anybody. We compete in practice 24-7 every day.”
After a Smyrna three-and-out, it was third and 15 and Riverdale quarterback Jameson Holcomb hit Lloyd with a screen pass that gained 51 yards to set up his 2-yard run to get the Warriors on the board.
